Portal or no portal for the site?

This is what a portal looks like:

shows the latest threads at the top, our calender, I can add weather rss feeds, links (like to our facebook group), etc.

then you click on 'forum' to view the forum. what do you think?

I wouldn't add the portal just yet. Need a few more members. Maybe next spring?
